PRESTIGE 520 Owners Review

PRESTIGE 520 Owners Review

Paul and Bridget Smart have been loyal PRESTIGE owners for nearly a decade, recently upgrading from their 500S to the PRESTIGE 520.
“We had our first PRESTIGE in 2013 and decided to move to the 520 after nine years. One of the key things about PRESTIGE is the relationship, we’ve visited the factory, and there’s a real openness and connection. The layout is perfect when we have family or friends onboard, with a separate master and guest cabins, and the IPS joystick makes handling so easy, even I’m confident at the helm. These boats are built for rough conditions like the Bay of Biscay, so we know they can handle New Zealand. It’s more than just a boat, it’s our holiday home.”

Sail to Motor Yacht: Changing from Lagoon 52 to Lagoon 630MY – Peter

After two years aboard a Lagoon 52 sailing catamaran in the Mediterranean, Peter Rawson decided it was time to return to his motor yacht roots. Seeking comfort, efficiency, and dependability, he turned to the Lagoon 630MY, and hasn’t looked back since.
“I originally bought the Lagoon 52 to try something different and planned to sail across the Atlantic. But I quickly realised I had little patience for the Mediterranean’s unpredictable winds. As a lifelong motor yacht owner, I couldn’t resist the comfort and control of the Lagoon 630MY. I chose Lagoon because it’s a trusted and well-recognised production brand, and the fuel efficiency of the 630MY really stood out. At the time of purchase, I remember thinking, ‘This is a very green choice for a motor yacht.’”

Why We Chose their Lagoon 450 to Sail the World – Ian and Jackie

Sailing the world wasn’t something Ian and Jackie originally imagined for themselves, but after falling in love with catamaran life in the Whitsundays, they began their search for the perfect liveaboard. “We really liked the Lagoon range, they had a great reputation and we were attracted by the sheer volume of Lagoons already in the water. We didn’t want a bespoke racing boat with little room, little support and no established community in place. After taking delivery in France, our Lagoon 450S quickly proved itself offshore giving us comfort and confidence every where we go.”

Sailing the World on a Lagoon Catamaran – Lars

Sailing the World on a Lagoon Catamaran – Lars

From France to Denmark, then around the world with his wife starting at age 69, Lars sailed over 50,000 nautical miles in the Lagoon 380. “I knew that more than 450 Lagoon 380s had been built, many were in charter, so this was a mature design. I know the works of VLVP, so we bought the 380 without having seen or sailed it! The boat has proved itself in every way, crossing oceans, winning both legs of the ARC Rally, and cruising through the Caribbean, Pacific, Southeast Asia, and the Mediterranean. A Lagoon 380 will go well to windward in more than 12 knots of wind if you have folding props and good sails that do not stretch. You can buy any well-prepared Lagoon and sail around the world. Don’t hesitate to do it yourself, even if you are old, any Lagoon can do it.”

Liveaboard Lagoon Catamaran Owner Review Australia – Matt and Lanaia

Matt and Lanaia Donkin own a 40ft Lagoon, Espresso and liveaboard in Australia. When asked what they love about their Lagoon Matt said, “We had a monohull before we bought our cat… there’s the stability, livability, room and ability to entertain and despite having a reputation for not being a brilliant sailor most Lagoons get along really well and I think we surprise a lot of people we sail with. I think we pleasantly surprise people with how well our Lagoon gets along. So you’ve got that great mix of comfort and performance, it’s quite good in its way. We love our Lagoon for both those things.”
Lanaia added, “Living onboard our Lagoon, it has some amazing space… the stability… I think it’s just provided us with a home, to be able to do what we are doing. This lifestyle is a very different lifestyle to what most people live, so it provides us with that amazing home away from a normal home. We have been very lucky to have this experience and to enjoy it and to enjoy the East Coast of Australia and the amazing people and sights that are here.”
