Lagoon Catamaran Owners Waste Mapping
Non-profit organisation AnimaMundi has teamed up with enthusiastic Lagoon Catamaran Owners to work on mapping the unfortunate heavy marine pollution found in the Caribbean Sea. With the use of DJI drones, Lagoon Owners will be able to contribute crucial footage assisting with the waste mapping of plastics in the area.

“At least 8 million tons of plastics end up in our oceans each year, making up 80% of all marine debris, from surface waters to deep-sea sediments.
33,000 single-use plastic bottles are dumped in our oceans every minute of every day, affecting every coastline – and yet there is currently no global data documenting the size, location and evolution of the problem” says an AnimaMundi Press Release.
AnimaMundi has developed software to automatically record, count and register plastics that have washed ashore in real time.
The data collected will be used to create the first comprehensive global database of plastic waste found along our coastlines, helping us understand the impact of actions taken to reduce plastic waste in our oceans.

Lagoon Brand Director, Thoman Gailly, commented “With over 6000 catamarans sailing around the world, we can really make a difference in a highly efficient way. This partnership is the perfect complement to our own policy of respect for the environment”.
With a large focus on sustainability, Lagoon cares about the environment and encourages Lagoon Catamaran Owners to become part of this initiative through signing up through ‘Club Lagoon’ online.
