First Ever Wash Drone to Clean a Boat Mast

Revolutionising Boat Maintenance

At TMG Yachts, we’re always at the forefront of innovation, and today we’re thrilled to introduce a world-first technology that’s set to change the way we maintain boats — the WashDrones. This cutting-edge tool is designed to clean boat masts with incredible efficiency and safety.

What Is the Washdrone?

The WashDrone is a specialised drone designed to clean hard-to-reach areas on boats — specifically masts — using high-pressure water. This powerful drone is equipped with a large lithium battery that allows for up to 45 minutes of flight time, enabling it to reach heights of up to 60 meters. This makes it ideal for cleaning areas like the mast track, shrouds, and other fittings that are typically difficult or dangerous to clean.

How Does It Work?

The WashDrone works by lifting a hose that delivers high-pressure water up to the drone, which then sprays it onto the boat’s mast and rigging. The drone maintains its position while cleaning, offering an efficient and safe way to clean these elevated, hard-to-reach areas. This is especially useful for boats like the Lagoon 46 catamaran, which have intricate parts that can accumulate salt and dirt but are difficult to access for cleaning.

Why Is the Washdrone a Game-Changer for the Marine Industry?

Safety First

One of the key benefits of the WashDrone is its ability to clean at heights without putting human workers at risk. Traditionally, cleaning a boat’s mast requires someone to climb the rig or use scaffolding, both of which present safety hazards. The WashDrone eliminates these risks, offering a safer, more efficient cleaning method.

Speed and Efficiency

With its ability to clean at great heights, the Washdrone drastically reduces the time spent cleaning a boat. By flying up to the mast and spraying water directly onto the rig, the drone can quickly clean areas that would otherwise take much longer to access. This not only saves time but also reduces labour costs, making it an attractive solution for yacht owners and marinas.

Ideal for Hard-to-Reach Areas

The drone is perfect for cleaning areas that are typically difficult to reach, such as the mast track and shrouds. These parts can accumulate saltwater, grime, and other debris, but they’re often neglected during routine cleaning because they are too high to reach safely. The WashDrone provides a way to thoroughly clean these areas without the need for human intervention.

Meet Paul New: Founder of Washdrones
Paul New, the founder and managing director of WashDrones, is passionate about revolutionising the way industries approach height cleaning.
According to Paul, the WashDrone’s mission is all about safety, speed, and efficiency. He believes that the drone’s ability to clean at heights will make a significant impact on the yacht community, particularly when it comes to high-maintenance vessels that require frequent cleaning.

We’ve been using drones in other sectors, like hospitals and infrastructure, and now we’re excited to bring this technology to the marine industry,” says Paul. “We see a huge gap in the market, especially for cleaning hard-to-reach areas on yachts.”

WashDrones is just one example of how technology is transforming the marine industry. As we continue to explore new ways to innovate boat maintenance and other aspects of boating, we can expect more groundbreaking products like this one to emerge. The Washdrone is an exciting step forward, and we’re eager to see how it continues to evolve.
