Exploring the New Lagoon 43
Redefining Blue Water Catamarans
Lagoon Catamarans, known as the market leader in blue water cruising vessels, has once again raised the bar with the all-new Lagoon 43. Following the massive success of the Lagoon 42—with over one thousand sold—the Lagoon 43 is poised to take its place, offering innovative features and design tweaks that promise to make it a standout in the catamaran market. This post will dive into the Lagoon 43’s key features and design updates.
Exterior: Smart Design for Comfort and Convenience
The stern area is one of the standout design improvements. A comfortable aft bench seat with multi-facing backrests provides plenty of space for relaxation. When raised the davits provide safe and easy dinghy storage well clear of the water below. When lowered the davit system offers extra lounging space with cushions on the netting. This smart setup is ideal for maximizing comfort when cruising or anchored in a picturesque bay.
One of the key new features is the side access gate. It offers easy boarding, particularly beneficial for families with young children or elderly passengers, as it eliminates the challenges that often come with docking alongside. With a simple step down to the dock, embarking and disembarking is hassle-free.
The engine rooms, accessible from each transom, have also been designed with practicality in mind. Powered by two reliable Yanmar 57-horsepower engines, the spacious engine rooms offer ample space for maintenance and even the option to add equipment like water makers or inverters. This focus on serviceability ensures that long-term cruising will be a breeze.
Cockpit and Saloon: Seamless Integration
One of the hallmarks of the Lagoon 43 is its focus on seamless integration between indoor and outdoor spaces. The cockpit flows effortlessly into the saloon, thanks to large sliding doors that can be completely stowed away. Whether you prefer an open, airy feel or a more enclosed setup, the flexible design caters to every preference.
The cockpit itself is spacious, with seating and multiple table options perfect for outdoor meals. Choose between a smaller coffee table and a large dining table or two large tables that connect in the centre, all of which can be reconfigured within a matter of moments.
Helm Station and Semi-Fly Bridge: Elevated Control and Social Spaces
The helm station retains much of the design loved on the Lagoon 42, but with enhancements for better ergonomics. Winches are positioned for easy access, and a Raymarine Axiom 12-inch plotter, autopilot, and other navigation systems ensure the captain has everything needed to operate the boat efficiently.
One of the standout new features on the Lagoon 43 is the semi-fly. This raised area is a highly social space, with seating for up to six adults. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy sunset drinks while still feeling connected to the action below. This clever design means the skipper can join in social gatherings, no longer isolated while navigating.
Foredeck and Bow: Added Comfort and Utility
The foredeck on the Lagoon 43 is another area where smart design shines through. A centralized seating area provides a comfortable spot to relax while sailing or at anchor. For additional comfort, optional trampoline cushions can be added, making it an ideal spot to sunbathe or enjoy the ocean breeze.
The bow area features wide decks, thanks to a wider hull that adds volume to the cabin and to the overall beam. This extra space enhances comfort while moving around the boat and offers more storage, perfect for long-distance cruisers. Additionally, the saloons forward window connects directly to the saloon, allowing for better ventilation and easy communication when preparing food in the galley.
Interior: Luxury and Versatility
Stepping inside, the Lagoon design team has outdone themselves. The saloon is not only spacious but versatile. Whether you want to configure the seating for large gatherings or intimate family dinners, the modular design allows you to adapt the space to your needs.
The galley has been moved forward on the port side, a clever move that frees up space, improves functionality and allows you to cook with a beautiful ocean view. It features dual sinks, a gas oven, and an opening window that creates excellent cross ventilation, keeping the interior cool and comfortable. With the large fridge full-sized fridge, two freezers to compliment the optional fridge in the cockpit and additional storage spaces throughout, provisioning for extended journeys will be easier than ever.
Luxurious Cabins: Rest and Relaxation
The cabins follow suit with a focus on space and comfort. The master cabin in particular benefits from the wider hull design, featuring a low bed located at the bow, ample storage, and an expansive ensuite bathroom. The inclusion of a separate shower and toilet—a feature typically found on larger vessels—adds a level of luxury that sets the Lagoon 43 apart from others in its class.
The two guest cabins are now also larger than ever, in the aft VIP cabin you can opt for a Pullman berth to create even more accommodation. There are now also two heads, both with fully separate showers, unique in this size class.
A True Evolution in the Lagoon Range
The Lagoon 43 successfully builds on the legacy of the Lagoon 42, bringing meaningful upgrades in comfort, design, and usability. From the versatile cockpit to the social semi-fly bridge and luxurious interiors, every inch of this catamaran is optimized for blue water cruising. It’s clear that Lagoon has once again set the standard for what a cruising catamaran should be, making the Lagoon 43 not just an evolution but a revolution in the world of sailing.
With its thoughtful design and focus on livability, the Lagoon 43 is set to be an award-winner and a dream vessel for any serious cruiser.
