Are you getting excited about the Lagoon 46?

With the release from Lagoon headquarters this week of the very first photos and videos of the 46 and the announcement that the Lagoon 46 has just been shortlisted for the Multihull of the Year 2019 Awards excitement is building about the latest offering from the number one catamaran brand in the world.

TMG Yachts managing director, John Cowpe, explains what’s so special about the Lagoon 46 and why there’s already so much anticipation well ahead of its international debut at boot Dusseldorf in January 2019.

The successor to the bestselling Lagoon 450F

“The decision to replace the Lagoon 450F, which is still the worldwide number one bestselling 450 catamaran ever produced, was a decision that wasn’t taken lightly by the group,” says John Cowpe.

“But Lagoon is a company founded on innovation and an incredible reputation for design excellence. This is a company who are totally committed to continually improving and evolving their brand and ensuring they remain the market leader worldwide because of their uncompromising investment in product development, quality construction and superb after-sales service.

So, they took the bestselling 450 catamaran ever produced…
…and said let’s make this boat even better!”

High end design features and 15% more space

“The 46 will be a larger vessel than the 450 by approx 15% but it will still easily manageable for a couple.

A huge amount of research and development went into both the interior and the exterior design of the new Lagoon 46. Lagoon wanted to keep all of the winning aspects of the 450 whilst also bringing in new generation features.

The high level of finish and styling on the 46 has filtered down from the incredible job they’ve done with their flagship vessels: the award winning 630MY and the Seventy7.

This is now the high level of finish that people of that level expect, with interior design by Nauta Design and the exterior design by Patrick le Quément all softening lines that give stylish appeal.”

The perfect combination of handling and relaxation areas

“Lagoon was the first catamaran company ever to produce a flybridge vessel and it has been so successful they’ve never looked back.

Highlights of the flybridge include fabulous visibility, a unique place to relax and enjoy a cocktail and a position where you can really feel the excitement of sailing the vessel.

When it’s hot you can still enjoy being up there in the fresh air rather than sitting behind a bulkhead and there’s also extra living space you don’t normally have.

The new generation open cockpit and ample seating with only two steps up from the water is a winning formula and the clever design allows Lagoon to maintain their class leading bridgedeck clearance.

The 46 has the option of a composite bimini, making access to the boom a dream when putting the sail away.

You can have confidence in all the sailing aspects of the 46, with the naval architecture penned by the masters at VPLP Design with Marc Van Peteghem taking a leading interest in the Lagoon range.

The 46 has continued down the proven next generation pathway with a tall mast and the wing profile square top mainsail (optional) which combines beautifully with self-tacking headsail for a smart sail plan. Add the code zero and you are off and flying.”

Light-filled, functional and elegant interiors

“The 46’s owners’ cabin provides a real sanctuary with a completely separate head and shower at either end, lots of storage and plenty of relaxing areas in the starboard hull.

Guests won’t go without either, with two VIP cabins each with separate shower stalls and forward cabins now offering for the first time island doubles in both the stern and bow.

The extra-large hull windows framed by hull mouldings flood the interior with light and the above water chine running the length of vessel delivers more volume inside and maintains performance.”
