Introducing the Innovative Lagoon 60 Interview with Product Manager
Interview with Designer & First Look
The world of luxury sailing has just been graced with the announcement of the Lagoon 60, and we couldn’t be more excited! To shed light on this magnificent vessel, we had the privilege of sitting down with Quentin Beraut, one of Lagoons product managers, who has been an integral part of the Lagoon and Beneteau Group for over two decades. In this exclusive interview, Quentin provides insight into the inspiration behind the Lagoon 60, its layout, circulation onboard, and some exceptional features that set it apart in the world of catamarans.
The Inspiration
Quentin starts by sharing the essence of the Lagoon 60, “The Lagoon 60, will be the real link between our 55 and the SIXTY 5. That’s something we needed in the range.” Thus drawing inspiration from both the 55 and SIXTY 5.
The team focused on the 55’s innovative rear half of the boat, including the cockpit area, which maintains a strong connection to ocean, taking this a step further with the addition of spacious opening sides, or wings. The 60 also incorporates features reminiscent of the Lagoon 65, such as the forward door, resulting in a harmonious blend of the best aspects of both models.
Layouts
When it comes to layout, Quentin reveals that Lagoon is catering to diverse preferences, “We have two versions for this boat, a four cabin with galley down and a five-cabin version with galley up. The choice between these two layouts depends on whether you want more room in the saloon or in the hull. It’s really all about the owner’s choices.”
Flow & Circulation
One of the key design principles behind the Lagoon 60 is ease of movement. “What we wanted in this boat is a clear circulation, meaning you can get around really easily.”
The Lagoon 60 features two large saloon doors connecting the forward and aft cockpits, all on the same level floor. “There are no steps, ensuring a seamless flow, whether you’re inside or outside.”
Cockpit Opening Wings
A standout feature of the Lagoon 60 is its aft opening wings, a unique addition to enhance the connection to both the ocean and the dock. Quentin explains, “We decided to include folding wings on each side of the cockpit. These not only provide extra space above the ocean but also offer easy access to the dock, something we’re increasingly focusing on at Lagoon. We’ve already improved this aspect in our previous models, and the Lagoon 60 takes it even further.”
The Flybridge and Helm Station
The Lagoon 60’s flybridge is a true marvel, “The flybridge is huge, and it’s one big level space because we moved the mast forward. This provides ample room for a dining table, lounging area, helm station, and a bar. It’s incredibly spacious, making it a perfect gathering spot for guests.”
He also highlights the convenience of the helm station, “The helm station is well-located on the flybridge, positioned to starboard, allowing for excellent visibility when parking the boat. We’ve even added an additional joystick to make docking on the port side easier.”
Most Unique Features
Quentin shares his personal favourite features and what makes the Lagoon 60 so unique, “My favourite parts would be the flybridge with its spacious lounging area and the aft cockpit with the two opening wings just above the ocean. These features, combined with the size of the flybridge and the excellent circulation on board, truly make the Lagoon 60 stand out in the market.”
The Lagoon 60 is set to make waves in the luxury catamaran world, combining innovative design, impeccable craftsmanship, and a commitment to creating the ultimate sailing experience. Whether you’re drawn to its spacious flybridge, circulatory design, or the connection it provides to the ocean, the Lagoon 60 promises a truly unforgettable voyage.
As the build of Lagoon 60 is already underway in Bordeaux, clients can expect to see this remarkable vessel on display in early 2024. The official launch is planned for March, where it will be showcased during Lagoon’s exclusive event, the Lagoon Exclusive Days. This event promises to be an exciting opportunity for customers to explore the entire Lagoon range, as well as be amongst the first to see this incredible new vessel.
