After a fabulous weekend on Sydney Harbour showing off this brand new Lagoon 42 it was time to sail back to Pittwater.
With expected westerly winds of 20-25kts it was definitely a shock for Claire who had never sailed before when we experienced gusts up to 32kts.
Pierre Skinner, an Aussie Lagoon owner explains that as a 6’6″ man his favourite thing about his Lagoon is the volume and height, saying to anyone thinking about buying a catamaran, “I would say go for it, don’t wait just do it, worry about the rest later.”

From France to Denmark, then around the world with his wife starting at age 69, Lars sailed over 50,000 nautical miles in the Lagoon 380. “I knew that more than 450 Lagoon 380s had been built, many were in charter, so this was a mature design. I know the works of VLVP, so we bought the 380 without having seen or sailed it! The boat has proved itself in every way, crossing oceans, winning both legs of the ARC Rally, and cruising through the Caribbean, Pacific, Southeast Asia, and the Mediterranean. A Lagoon 380 will go well to windward in more than 12 knots of wind if you have folding props and good sails that do not stretch. You can buy any well-prepared Lagoon and sail around the world. Don’t hesitate to do it yourself, even if you are old, any Lagoon can do it.”

Back by popular demand, Joe Fox demonstrates the two ways of Med Mooring using an anchor and a mooring block and lines.
After years of sailing the East Coast of Australia, Kerry and Bryn Wellington have truly made the most of life aboard their Lagoon 450S, Nautilus. Through it all they have felt welcomed by TMG Yachts, saying that being a Lagoon owner feels like joining a family.
Kerry says her favourite part of their Lagoon is, “the outdoor table and cockpit area, as well as the overall volume.”
While Bryn remarked, “The finish is really good, it’s a fantastic boat we love the space for all our water toys, including kite surfing gear, two SUPs and diving equipment.”

In 2021 Lagoon released a range of upgrades on the best selling Lagoon 42 including; helm seat, Aft cockpit seat and Cockpit fridge.
Lagoon 40 owners Caroline and Sven are currently sailing the world after recently picking up Kwilena in France, “We had no idea that we would like living onboard full-time this much. For now home really is where our anchor drops and we cannot imagine going back to a normal life. We are definitely infected with the travel bug.”

This was my (Marnie’s) first ever offshore sailing adventure on a catamaran and first experience doing overnighters. I decided to film as much as I could to give you an inside look into what these kinds of non-stop journeys really look like so you can decide whether it is something you would be interested in doing.
Matt and Lanaia Donkin own a 40ft Lagoon, Espresso and liveaboard in Australia. When asked what they love about their Lagoon Matt said, “We had a monohull before we bought our cat… there’s the stability, livability, room and ability to entertain and despite having a reputation for not being a brilliant sailor most Lagoons get along really well and I think we surprise a lot of people we sail with. I think we pleasantly surprise people with how well our Lagoon gets along. So you’ve got that great mix of comfort and performance, it’s quite good in its way. We love our Lagoon for both those things.”
Lanaia added, “Living onboard our Lagoon, it has some amazing space… the stability… I think it’s just provided us with a home, to be able to do what we are doing. This lifestyle is a very different lifestyle to what most people live, so it provides us with that amazing home away from a normal home. We have been very lucky to have this experience and to enjoy it and to enjoy the East Coast of Australia and the amazing people and sights that are here.”

“I chartered a Lagoon 450 in Croatia… I had a fantastic couple of weeks on that and that’s probably where it all started from. I met a fellow that had a Lagoon 450 and followed his 5-year journey through the Med and the Caribbean. All the reports gave me the confidence to want to go into Lagoon. The Lagoon 46 adds a whole lot more to cruising pleasure. This is a boat designed to take the owner and family long distances in comfort and style. Distances such as South East Queensland to the Whitsundays, or even out to the Pacific Islands. Theo Kuiters shares his incredible adventures onboard his Lagoon 380 and how he made owning his dream boat a reality.
“After looking all over Australia for 6 years, I even flew to Barcelona for a test sail. I was looking at the 440 but went smaller for single handed. Cats Paw was the 540th 380 built and the most bulletproof catamaran made to withstand the charter market. It is the type of boat that even none sailors can sail because it is super forgiving for people that make mistakes. The rigging is so strong, it honestly was the perfect first boat. These boats are built with so much reserve safety, even inexperienced sailors can sail without doing themselves a misery. Cats Paw once went up against a serious Caribbean storm travelling at 22kts with no sails up, seeking refuge in Columbia.”
